Meet Carolyn

My name is Carolyn Trecartin (née Radcliffe). My pronouns are she/hers. I grew up on the West Side of Saint John, NB. I married my husband Brad in June 2018. We had our first child in January 2019 in the hospital.

I was profoundly disappointed by the lack of breastfeeding resources in the area. Even though I had done reading and research, the early days of nursing were a struggle. Thank God I pushed through! I found such great advice in the La Leche League International/Canada book "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding", that I trained for a year to become accredited as a lactation Leader.

I obtained accreditation as a Leader in August 2020 - the same month I birthed my second child safely at home with the help of doulas. The support I received was so transformative and healing. I knew everyone needed this level of love and personal care present on their birth team. While I debated whether or not to become a doula, I was supporting families as a Leader with La Leche League Canada, as the only Leader for the Saint John Group. As I coached new moms and parents over the phone, and heard their (usually negative) birth stories, I saw how that impacted breastfeeding and chestfeeding. I felt a deep calling that my care needed to extend beyond postpartum, and that if I could just be there during birth, they might get off to a much better start.

I completed my training through Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings on a full scholarship. As a certified full-spectrum doula I have extensive training in supporting people through conception, pregnancy, birth and postpartum; as well as in pregnancy and infant loss, abortion, adoption and surrogacy birth.

Since my certification, I have completed continuing education (non-certification courses) in:

  • Caesarian Section Births and recovery, including scar tissue massage and mobilization

  • Full-spectrum Pregnancy and Infant Loss, with a focus on herbal medicine to support a pregnancy release

  • Birth and Disability

In October 2022, my family and I moved to my husband's hometown, Hampton, NB. We absolutely love it here!
